KTM holds on the kick starter the same way. I had the bolt break off and went through the same gyrations. I ended up carefully drilling out the bolt and using a tap to get the old threads out and re-cut the inside of the shaft. The whole time I was praying that it worked. Take those bolts out every so often and clean things up and re-loctite'em.
