Ideally I would like to start in AB, cross the divide and then get gas in Fernie perhaps and return to AB in the afternoon. I'm looking at the pass just south and west of Castle Mtn. ski area, but not sure if it would be easy enough or legal? We'll have one street legal DS bike and one trail legal bike. Is this doable? Any advice?

JUST south of Castle ski hill?

That's the one we went over a few weeks ago. It's the point of no return and 1000's of feet of elevation drop in a short, straight line through a thoroughly overgrown trail.

For easy stuff you're reduced to a few roads. Could take the 40 down, then do a loop around Harvey / Flathead and back up. Coal Creek out of Fernie also goes over with some minor navigation.

On a different note, tomorrow at noon we depart for the NW corner of Idaho. Saturday morning we start the Tour of Idaho T1 Challenge.
