Ah - I should have went back through the posts. Sorry for the duplication. I was in a rush that evening.
That levee attempting to hold back the Pea River is some pretty impressive work, ESP the moving flood gate across Davis St/Hwy84.
Looks like they have a pretty nasty time of it with flooding and all, most recently in 98, but some pretty nasty flooding throughout the years even with the levee in place.
So the house was owned by a notable Alabamian. Some of his political antics reminded me of Homer Stokes from O'Brother Where Art Thou.
