Weekend away in October..

Day 1:

11th October 2013

Emerald - Lorne.

Mrs Tiger and I had saved up a few days to attend the HU meeting in Cavendish this weekend.

The only problem with that was that it was fully booked by the time we got around to making a booking

Oh well, a weekend off is still a weekend away.

..and at least we would get the opportunity to try out some new gear and camping toys

Start km's:

Packed and ready to go.

The only real plan we had for this trip was to avoid the city by taking the ferry across the bay from Sorrento - Queenscliff.

Stopped for coffee and snacks before the ferry was due in Sorrento.

Little crumb thief..

Waiting at the back of the line for the ferry.

..and yeah, that's a whole group of Can-Am riders in front of us.

We would catch up with these folks later in the trip too.

Ready to ride on board.

On board.

Looking back to Sorrento.

Checking out the new toy!

A nice lady Can-Am rider took our pic.

Enjoying the view.

Docking at Queenscliff.

Disembarking behind the Can-Am group.

The ferry isn't the most cost-effective method of getting from one side of the bay to the other, but it is the more scenic alternative.

It was about $45 for the bike + 2 one-way, leaves from both ends on the hour every hour and takes about 45 minutes.

You get to see the best of both the Mornington and Bellaraine Peninsula's along the way.

Of course, by this time we had to stop for refreshments in Queenscliff.

Had these very tasty lamb shank and potato pies followed by apple slice at Anne's Gourmet Kitchen.

Main street of Queenscliff.

Back on the road, through Ocean Grove.

Tried some alternative roads to Anglesea..

Until we were met by this.

Stopped for a breather in Anglesea.

..before getting back on the road to Lorne.

Stopped and set up camp at the Queens Park camping ground in Lorne.

Trying out more new stuff..

Helinox camp chairs!

Set up for the night.

Wandered into town for fish and chips and a burger.

Hung out with the locals..

..and went for a sunset walk along the pier.

Signs to places near and far..

211 km's for the day.

Gps track for the day.
