On customs aduana and such
Quote from Horizons Unlimited re. crossing border from Mex to Guat:
"Allow 2 hours, arrive early, not at lunch time, avoid weekends & public holidays"
So J&V figured that if they got to the border at 1235 on Friday, Dia de Los Muertos, everything would be just peachy.
We crossed at El Ceibo,
10 minutes to get out of Mexico, including a very diligent custom officer who brave the heat and humidity to take a picture of the VIN.
Enter the Guatemalan side, I am indicated where to pull over. And Jackie goes to work, 20 minutes later I need to walk a hundred metres into Guate to change our left over Pesos to Quetzales, hand the loot back to Jackie, she signals the fumigator to do his deed while she goes to pay the fees at the Bancorural, and we are out of here.
What a fixer she is
15 QTZ each for entry stamps
160 QTZ for vehicle import fees
11 QTZ for fumigation
All together out of Mex into Guate, 35 minutes while I chatted with the very friendly custom officer.
A longish ride to Flores and we are overlooking the peninsula from our Chaltunha hostal.
Out of North America and into Central America
I'll be back tomorrow with more pics from Palenque
