Why take the risk?

I can't think of a single time when making eye contact has been a benefit to my safety while riding.

I can think of many when they looked right at me and pulled out or turned in front of me anyway.

There is NOTHING about SIPDE (not "SPIDE") that ever includes eye contact with other road users.

SIPDE simply means to Scan, Identify, Predict, Decide and Execute.

There is NEVER a mention of making eye contact.
