Special tool to remove and install (it's in the manual page 5-6). Possible any blind puller will work and looks like you could make the installation tool/holder if you have a lathe.

Also is this an indication of the condition of the internal crank bearings?
Dunno but I would have thought so as the primary means of support is the case bearings. If it's cutting a groove in the clutch cover support I'd have thought this would indicate that the case support is out of true .... but I'm no expert I'd check the crank end wear also.
