The problem happens when unburned fuel contacts the catalyst and then ignites. This will cause the monolith to melt and block flow. I would not suggest doing this unless you remove the catalytic converter.
I also have a Arrow pipe on it's way without a cat and will be interested to see what you come up with. That is one ugly system that has to go :)
