Assuming that you need one more bike than you currently have, here is how I solved that problem last August when my son came to visit from out of state.
I have two bikes and needed three so my other son could also ride with us. He had access to an XR650L, but it had sat for years, with fuel in the tank and carburetor. I worked on it for a few days, but couldn't get it running reliably.
So I bought another XR650L as a temporary bike, at a good price. My intention was to keep it for about six months, fix all minor issues, then either sell that one or my current one, depending on which one I liked better. However, somebody posted that they were looking for one for an upcoming Baja trip, so I sold it to him after two months (for a little more than I had bought it for). I figure that I had the use of that bike for two months for basically no cost, and it was mine while I had it, so no concern about damaging it.
