I was skeered the first time I took a carb apart, too.
I bought a jet kit from Kientech, the DR specialist in SW Oregon, after buying an FMF for a DR200. Basic instructions were easy to follow, and it was nowhere near as bad as expected. I also found a proper service manual on eBay pretty cheap, takes away the surprises of taking the suspension apart.
