I just got the following response from the BLM in Utah regarding a two-track segment -- Coal Bank Springs Road -- along H.o.W. north of the Wendovers/I-80:
This road is considered a primitive or unmaintained road on our records and as such, BLM would not normally perform regular maintenance on it. We will, however, in response to your email, perform a visual inspection of the road when we can schedule some time to determine if spot repairs are warranted to keep the road open.
Doesn't sound like repairs are coming soon ...
This fun and historic little road runs north-south along the eastern flanks of the Pilot Range, southwest of the Lucin railroad siding. A number of watercourses run down from the mountains and across it ...
Late-season riders last year reported being able to get around the washouts. Not sure a support truck could; I've not been there to have a look yet.
But it connects to county-maintained TL Bar Ranch Road, which parallels it on the flats (see post 482). So there is an alternative, and rendezvouses would be easy.
