The EWS message pins it to the immobilizer system. It could be the key, the ring antenna or the BMS unit, but the antenna is most likely. In a way that would be better for you (you wouldn't lose one off the ten possible key IDs) but it would sure be easier for you to just fire it up with the plastic key...
Heck, maybe it's a bad connection at the antenna connector.
