Another impressive report by the Webber's!

Here's a shot in the dark:

After WWII, in 1947, my father rode to Evergreen, CO from OH on a 1938 Harley (i'll have to check the year of the harley) Anyway he would talk about riding into the mountains on his days off with some of the locals. Any chance your father was around Evergreen in '47?
He actually rode two up to CO He worked at a resort in Evergreen during the summer of '47 then rode onto Kellogg, ID to work in the silver mines.

I don't have picture one of him on his bike. Ask your dad if he ever rode with a guy from OH named Howard aka Howdy or Abe.
