It's strictly a receiver and thats it, there is no logic or hard drive or anything to the antennae other then being a pathway for the key's code to get to the theft deterrant system, no programming required. The BMSK is already programmed with the correct key codes and as long as it gets that information it's good to go. While some of the shit on these things is rocket science, the ring antennea is not. Furthermore if the BMSK recognizes a failing EWS it will generate a code and then the GT1 at the dealer comes into play to clear that fault code. However on the couple that have failed around here, only 50% of them generated a component failure code.
