I've got the front end, but need the rear for my '85 XL600.

The gurus on Thumpertalk recommend using the front end off an XR600 (much more robust and taller forks) and installing emulators. That will match the front end to the XR rear shock. The other possibility is putting modern USD forks on the XL--but that's much more expensive and doesn't offer much improvement (experts say--I don't know).

I bought the forks and triple tree from an '86 XR600 on eBay shipped for $70. I will need to replace the trashed fork seals and then install the emulators. A nice winter project.

Another option is to install a post '91 XR front end to take advantage of the cartridge forks Honda went to. (I looked but couldn't afford this option.)

But I want to know where you sourced the XR shock. I am looking but would benefit from your advice.
