Capital Coast Adventure 2008
On the Friday before the CCA BusaJim organized a ride for some of the Christchurch guys up the Maungakotukutuku Valley so my son Glen and I decided to tag along. We went up after lunch and had a play untill we had to go and meet the others at 2.30.
We got a bit sidetracked as we were meeting the others at the foot of the hill that is just visable at the far end of the valley in the picture below.
We finally met up with the others at 3.00 and headed up towards Orange Hut. We stopped at the turn off to Devils Staircase and regrouped.
We then headed off and regrouped again after the first stream crossing.
It was a bit slippery and quite a few of us had close encounters of the muddy kind...
At this point we realized that we'd lost Pampa so Glen and I headed back to look for his corpse while the others forged on to Orange Hut
We met him coming our way but minus his gearlever which had sheared the shaft flush with the case. So we escorted him slowly (he was stuck in third) back to the road. He was not a happy camper as he was all geared up for the CCA on his near new BMW 650 X-Challenge which he'd only owned for 4 weeks. He declined a ride on our trailer and motored slowly off towards home.
I didnt realize that BMW had already started making its engines in China.
The others all returned safely from Orange Hut shortly after we got back and headed off to set up camp at the school.

Just some random photos I took during the ride. What perfect weather and what a great ride. The little DT230 was perfect for this sort of ride - with its low comfortable seat, lightish weight and sweet motor.
