I agree, the RT has a lot of surface area which makes it difficult. Perhaps a two tone - leave the rear fender and side covers flat black. Paint the lowers one color - something mild, maybe even flat or semigloss black - and then the rest your color of choice. It isn't that hard to do a nice rattle can job - even metallics and candy apple.
Just because the bike has 200K doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to look good. I understand how you feel - that it's high miles and not worth much, so not worth spending the effort or expense.
On the other side of the fence, I think the old girl is worth it and actually deserves it. I'm always impressed when I see a 200K mile bike that looks like new.
