you don't need a chipped key, and you can have hundreds of them if you like. (And the guy who buys your old bike doesn't need to worry about that extra key).

Best thing is they are much cheaper.

Or, you could rekey the locks as above. I find independant keys useful, as I can give a pannier key to someone to go get beer, but they can't move the bike away as a practical joke.
