I know this is an old thread, but it was resurrected so should be updated: Clear Creek Management Area (BLM) is closed to everything - including hikers. You cannot get from New Idria to Los Gatos Creek Road/Coalinga anymore. Don't get caught there; its tresspassing on Fed Property.

Mendocino NF is the biggest off-road area in the region now. For a quick fix you can try OHV parks: Carnagie south of Livermore, Hollister Hills south of Hollister, and Metcalf in South San Jose.
