Well it does need and use a steady stream of outside air, if you put a wind screen around it 360 degrees, the flames die right down unless you have notches cut in the bottom of your windscreen. And, I believe methyl alcohol has lots of oxygen content to it (for instance alcohol burning motors are jetted ridiculously rich). But I dunno much on the physics of it. Stove burn great with pot on, me cook food.
