Superhunk and I went out and verified the gate status this last weekend. The western gate at the county line is wide open. That upper section of road is pretty nasty already from this last winter. The eastern end at Highway 16 has a new gate and concrete barrier to prevent cars from passing through, but more than enough room for any motorcycle, beemers included.
Even on Memorial Day weekend, it was really quiet out there. No other vehicles during the entire ride out there. The bathrooms at Buck Island (where the rafters would put in) are locked since BLM can't get vehicles out to service them.
