Yep, the old one. Barreda is in California soon to be joined by Paulo and Helder for the initial shake down of the new bike although Helder did some prelim testing in Japan. I am assuming that testing is working with JCR and I do know that Martino Bianchi is also in town increasing the pressure.

It is my opinion that the Speedbrain bike (dos Sertoes winning Speedbrain bike I may add) will be the most sorted, most capable bike at Dakar. With Honda and KTM rolling out new bikes and the associated teething problems, the Speedbrain 450 is well placed to capitalize. Cyril, of course, is one to watch with Yamaha, but the various bikes have yet to win, or even really challenge for more than a few stages where the Speedbrain bike is just hitting its stride.

The SpeedBrain BMW/Husky will no longer have 1st tier riders..

KTM wont go mad, Honda has more riders then new bikes, Yamaha is still the same since 2006.

Dont know what to think of all of the above but KTM will probably win somehting again as they are the most experienced and one of the longest running true factory efforts...:cry

We'll see. Botturi has proven plenty fast and with his age, remarkably consistent and calculated. Chavo, with the +450 championship wrapped up has been gaining speed and confidence and has been working tremendously hard to be one of those top tier riders.

That said, don't be surprised to not see all of the KTM squad on the new bike. Some prefer the dialed in mass of the known rather than the light and agile of the unknown.

Would be nice to see Marc stay on old and an American newcomer on the new...

So has it been confirmed that the new KTM 450 is coming out in time?

Given their past experience with the first productions of KTM450RR's I think the new ones will do well

Apart from fuel injection do we know anything else about these bikes? :ear

Its actually going to be 350cc engined rally bike, positioned (sticker kit) as the new KTM Adventure 390 while the factory boys will run a bored out 449cc version.

But that's all rumor ofcourse :)

From the KTM Blog, an interview with Stefan Pierer

Let’s talk about Dakar…is there a new bike coming?
Yes. We always wanted to make a lighter, slimmer and easier to handle motorcycle but with the same power. It is a single and still a 450 following the regulations but is a better handling rally bike. Our existing model was so successful for many years and originally we had the 600cc regulation. We were winning all the time so the promoter and Japanese pushed for the 450 and we put that engine inside the 600 chassis and we still won. However the chassis really is too big and heavy for that smaller engine, so we have done it like motocross with a nice bike that looks good and hopefully Marc Coma will bring it to the finish line first. Tests are already well underway and if you want to compete against Honda and Yamaha then you must get serious! After a long time and successful collaboration Cyril [Despres] went to Yamaha but on a very friendly base on both sides because he wanted a new challenge. He will get it for sure if he is now going up against KTM! Honda have also signed a very fast rider…it is not a club race any more.
