I got a bit perplexed as well when I got my Ricky for my XL. I ended up tracing the old stator wiring back from the 4 pin plug a bit, and found a heap of connectors that I could plug the Ricky into. Just check the wiring on your old stator from the 4 pin plug. Plug and play...all good HTH
So, I went down to the local signwriting shop today. I have some original 1988 XR600 tank stickers. I wanted not to use the originals (who knows what the glue is like after all this time), so I got them to scan and reproduce the stickers on modern vinyl. The reproductions are printed, not silkscreened as the originals were, but look pretty good anyhow. The red on the reproduction is a little "redder", but that is as close as they can get by printing. And seeing as how they are NLA from Honda, I'm not complaining. The original is on top, reproduction below.
Lens assembly is the only thing I didn't make. Friend of mine made the hoop, I've made the ring around the lens out of aluminum, and the rest is made out of the baby-chair . Tried it last night in my yard, works great. But here's the question. I've put the 60/55 bulb in it, and it varies in intesnity just a bit off the idle. I've replaced the rear bulb with a low power LED, so I figured it's the same power alltogether. What do you think? Can it doo any damage to the stator?
I have a 55/60 bulb in my XR and yeah, on and around idle its pretty poor.. Hasn't done any harm to my bike except for eating a couple of rear bulbs, which was fixed with installing a LED bulb.. (china crap, but it works..)
youll need a better stator or a rewind to run the 55watter or anything above even on my ricky I notice my light is much brighter by going down to a 60 or so watter(I used to have a 95watter) direct from one leg of the ricky stator and it wasnt as bright as it is now... even though the stock stator is rated at 85 watts or so, when old and with tailight brake light you are asking too much of it you wont damage the stator or regulator but it just wont be too bright l love the cage though nikolic!
I was thinking of fitting the H4 LED in the front... will give it a try anyway! I like it more and more . Waiting for a night ride :)
We have a higher output EU spec stator I think? Not the US style low output stator.. I have this one, ELECTREX G410, and a bit crappy to see, but it gives this much light on high idle (choke, around 2300rpm)
forgot about that the ricky wont dim at idle so thats good let us know how that electrex one works... there have been a few rickys failing lately
Last night, I went out to look at an '88 XR600 It was amazingly clean, and not just in a "fresh out of the car wash" kind of clean. It was clean like it was new. I started a thread on here about what to look for, and all the things that I was told to keep an eye out for were good. I took it for a spin, and that was that. He lived a few miles out in the sticks, so riding it home was interesting. For the last 4.5 years, all I've ridden was a Concours14. This one rode a little um... different. The guy threw in two extra gas tanks, and three brand new tires. Two of which are mounted on rims. He also gave me an extra rear fender, a spedometer, and a few other parts. Not bad for 2k. I'll be looking to sell of most of the extra parts. If there's something I've listed that you guys need, lemme know. Also, when we got home, we noticed there was an oil leak by the front sprocket. Ah, the joys of owning an older motorcycle begin.
Has anyone made some seat modifications around here? I've traveled a bit with my girlfriend and it wasn't a pleasure. Thinking of converting the tailbag into the seat for her, but still am thinking of buying another seat to modify. Any sugestions, pics?
The leak is probably just the cs shaft seal...you pop the sprocket off, and with a dental pic you pry the old seal off install new seal on and make sure you grease or oil the lip...and dont push all the way in it could also leak from the grommet out of the stator, let us know I think you scored a great deal...you have a pristine basically untouched 88 cept for the tanks and tip on the exhaust... im assuming its plated right? anyways welcome fellow 88er! there are quite a few of us now...from all parts of the world jejeje christian
