About this time seems nice....definitely not the dead of summer. I am pretty sure we won't have the time for the whole thing anyway. Looks like I am at the top of page 100...someone please delete a post.

Well I only have 3 gallons, but I get nearly 69MPG (If I don't go over 50MPH).. So you have more gas, my I have my sipper bike.

I don't think CornerSpin really cares who you use a "friend". You can probably also re-use names too.

If I did my math right, even with sipping I still have you by almost 40 miles
    (5 gal @ 50 mpg vs 3 gal @ 69 mpg)
and I still get 50 mpg holding 65 mph :D

As I look at the events calendar it's looking like January or February right now for the First Aid class....any and all dates are open right now for Dorito and I.

I have placed some things I have talked about below in a Google Map for reference:

The HUBB Traveler's Meeting was a good trip. Tons of interesting people around and the chance to hear first hand stories about international travel. There were three different presenters that were in the middle of a 'Round the World Trip, including inmate rtwpaul.... A canadian was there who had just spent a year in South America on motorcycles with his wife and 13 year old kid. One part I really enjoyed was a panel of travelers who just told stories and gave advice for an hour on South American border crossings. All in all, hearing the stories makes you realize the big trip can be done as long as you have a good attitude. Plus, the event was in an area with great riding, so I would recommend attending one in the future.

First off, to anyone traveling down near the Tail of the Dragon, I would highly recommend the Iron Horse Motorcycle lodge (on map). Very friendly staff, great customer service. They have cabins, bunkhouses, RV spots and tent spots. If you are camping, they have nice bathrooms with showers. They have a big lounge and dining room, wifi, serve above average dinners and breakfasts.

Here is Gail's and my cabin (semi-private, meaning we each had a motel room size room, but we shared a common bathroom)

various camp sites with creek going down the middle:

One place I would recommend that NO ONE stay is Deals Gap. I have ridden by there several times over the years, for gas, to eat, to take a break while riding the Dragon. This time, while checking out the Tree of Shame, I saw an open door and checked out a room. I have spent the night in nicer prison cells. White concrete block walls, metal frame bunk beds, 30 year old 13 inch TV with 9 channels. Unless you were looking for an appropriate place to commit suicide, I would not stay there, regardless of how close it is to the infamous stretch of road.

We rode the Diamondback on the way down, a little northeast of Asheville (see map). I highly recommend it and it took about an hour.

I highly recommend Wayah Rd and a nearby section of 28 (both on map). The road I labeled "fun section of 28" was probably our favorite road of the whole trip. We found this somewhere around there also but I can't find where it was on the map:

    <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/6LwidhgBBIIfj2GfeoJ8ENMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-wYmuDy7SrMs/UE0yp9zHMTI/AAAAAAAAC6s/ejh_1riSiOE/s640/IMG_0142.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right"></table>

I also recommend Cherohala Skyway (great views, a great mix of gradual sweepers and tighter turns, but not too demanding, just fun) and we found a great sandwich shop at the end of it (both on map).

On the way home, I rode the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville to the Virginia Border. It added four hours to my travel time but was worth it.

This trip, I did have to add a new category to my list of stock stereotypes. While I have always had a "Harley rider" stereotype, I have now added a "Harley riders within 50 miles of the Tail of the Dragon" stereotype--a completely different animal...I'm not willing to put specifics in print... :norton

Obligatory shots from the photo tents (nothing too crazy):
