I just sent you a payment for a SimmerStove. I bought the regular one from you about a month ago, and I really love it. Super simple, and it works very well. My favorite kind of gear. Now that I've had a chance to user the regular stove, I'm sure the Simmer Stove will be very useful to have when camping too.

    Thanks!

I live in Las Vegas, never gonna need Heet here, yet it is available at every Wal-mart and parts store i have been into.

How about Costa Rica?:ear Keep in mind I'm flying down so carrying it isn't really an option these days.

    I don't know about Costa Rica. :lol3

Report back and let us know!

(it may not burn as clean, but the 95%+ rubbing alcohol will work. But it will stain yoru cookware a bit.)

My vote is denatured alcohol. I should be easy to find in a hardware store anywhere you go. It is less toxic than the methyl alcohol in Heet. I found this out while playing with it on my stove in my apartment. The fumes from the Heet seem to give me a little headache.

I have been asked about cooking a hunk of meat over this stove. So I did a little test today, and put the details at the tail end of my first post of this thread.

Thanks for the write up on the burger cooking Shady. I'll keep your experience in mind if I ever try cooking meat with one of my stoves.

While I was at Walmart today I noticed that the four bottle packs of Heet were marked down to $3. Individual bottles were still $1.37 each though. I only picked up a pack. Might be worth your time to walk down the automotive aisles if you're in the store and want to stock up.

Steve, this is a really cool little product! :freaky

Quick question: can you light one with one of these? (sorry if this has been answered before...)

Yeah, it looks at least 10 minutes old in that photo. So a curious mind has to ask...burn or cut and stove related?

I have been using a very similar stove for a few years now. Have cooked for up to a family of 5 hungry cyclists using a single stove. They are really a great design, and do not self destruct.

I do offer one caution...... watch table tops, I managed to brand a whole pile of picnic tables and benches across the country. I generally wet down the table where I am cooking, if I remember. I suspect it may be the reflected heat from the bottom of the pot which may ignite things. It may also be as a result of multiple fills cooking things like spaghetti.

If you ever need a replacement windscreen any place that sells MSR stoves will have a windscreen and a reflective plate which will reduce boil times out doors.

:thumb Thanks for the tip on the windscreen.

I'd add just be careful anywhere. My first camping trip I set it on a rock with a tiny wobble and I dumped boiling water on myself and spilled a bunch of flaming alcohol all over a huge bed of pine needles in a nat. forest.

It was wetter than hel after several days of rain, but it was sure a eye opening experience, if it's happened in desert brush with a little wind who knows:huh And it hurt:deal
