Changed the oil and filter, put the car tire back on the rear, put a new ME 880 on the front. Rubber on the sidecar looks fine for the trip to Oregon and back even loaded up with Barley and all our camping gear. Put a coat of wax on the hack. Started moving all the stuff I'm taking on the trip into the shop. Will do the 24k service next week, then pull the rig into the shop and start packing, and repacking, and reorganizing, and fiddling with the weight balance. This is going to be an awesome adventure. Just me and the dog. Vermont to Washington/Oregon via a very scenic 5800 mile route...then 4000 miles on the return trip. Seeing some old friends along the way and hoping to meet several new friends as well.
Is this for all the 1200Gs's or just the recent years? Say, 2010 and newer. :huh I think the listed spec on my 2009 is 220ml but I've also seen 180ml. Confused, I went with 200ml when I changed mine last year. Haven't had any problems so far. Any idea what symptoms I'd see if it had too much oil?
All R1200 bikes and the K1200/1300 take 180ML, and have. Most likely you won't have an issue, but if you do a leaky seal is the general symptom. Jim
Yes. The OEM speedo with its magnetic drive isn't all that accurate (Over reads badly). I installed the Cateye before I started using the Garmin with GPS. I can set it even to compensate for tyre wear and I like the digital readout. The Velo 8 is one of the few that reads up to 300 kph - most only do 100 kph.
Installed some SW-Motech bar risers on my GS tonight! The bar position feels great!! I was surprised to see that only two of the four clamp bolts actually secure the bars to the triple tree. In a full lock right turn the added height causes the clutch cable to be too taught, so that is tomorrow's epic project - drop the fork tube and re-route the clutch cable over the top triple clamp and not under it. One of the reasons I installed the bar risers is because the steering damper install required that the lower bar clamp to bo reversed. This had the effect of moving the too far bars forward. The bar risers allowed me to put the bar clamp back in the original fashion.
Missed the group buy by a few days... Any chance of a second waive? Can you tell me about the install - did you do it yourself? How hard was it? I was considering hyperpro just because install was easier. Did you give it a workout yet, can you comment on prformance? Thanks
Filled the tank. 7.5 gallons into 305 miles. RID recorded all the bars lit, full. Until I rolled it off the centerstand. Then one bar down. German accuracy. Rode to work.
Hope this is the right place to ask. Dealer wants $400 for first service for a 2013 gs1200 water cooled. What does the first service entail? I have changed oil and filter etc myself on other bikes.
Reckon it's in the owners manual...not trying to be a smart ass....if you don't have a OM there may be something you could download online perhaps?
I think this is what you're looking for http://www.ascycles.com/pdf/ServiceSchedules/R1200GS_Adventure-DOHC_600_Service.pdf
Did my engine and rear drive oils myself, dealer completed the rest of the first service for $107 +taxes.
Test rode a 2013 R1200GS-Adventure in red. Bought a 2013 R1200GS-Adventure 90 Year Anniversary edition. Made an appointment for a service for my 2003 R1150GS-Adventure. I'll ride the 1150 in, drop it off for the service and ride the 1200 home on Friday. Let the farkleization begin
Awesome! I love the color scheme on the 90 year version... Check out my sig for my '12 3Black GS Adventure build thread. Maybe you'll get some ideas or give me some more...
