Thanks for all the support guys. This place is a nightmare. I've been going to the ticket place every day and they won't sell me a ticket because there "isn't a boat leaving today" Today I saw a backpacker waiting and I asked where he was going.. He said Aktau. WTF! Really? So I try again to get a ticket. "we are full". :huh

    :kboom

I can't wait to get to Kazak.

you sure the 'fines' were the result of speeding or for possession of an offensive beard?

looking back, what could you have done differently to avoid the fines? or are they just a pack of c**ts and nothing would have made a difference?

PS i think the beard rocks

Well.. As If I didn't feel like a sucker already. I found this today. Official AZ traffic laws and penalties. Probably would be a great thing to have printed out and handy for when you get pulled over. When they say "500 eruo" you can hand them 50 manat and tell them to have a nice day. :D

When I click on that link and go to the "fines" section, it just states, "coming soon". :dunno

Good luck with getting out. Safe travels. PM me if you need anything from stateside. Always happy to help.

    Its official. Azerbaijan sucks.

I met some good guys yesterday who are part of the "Baku Bicycle Club" and they have been helping me out.

This morning looked promising. At 10:00 they said there is a boat but we need to call at 2 to find out if I can be on it. If there are petroleum tank Railroad cars they won't let any passengers on the boat. (Although inmate Beta got on one of these boats a few years back).

So we call at 2:00 and there is no way I can get on this boat because of the materials its carrying.

I called the US embassy because my Visa will expire on the 8th. I was hoping there is some way to extend it. Basically, I will have to pay $450 for an exit visa. :huh

Jesus Christ - talk about stepping on ur dick.:huh

But thanks for being the guinea pig - I'll mark Az off my must rides list:deal

I'm sure, like most places in the world, U are treated nice by the locals, but the inept way some places are run, just boggles the mind. No wonder those fcukers drink some much vodka - they drive U to it.:freaky

Well Noah, like most everything in life - this to shall end.

    Keep the bearded chin up...

I wish man. My russian Visa does not start until the 15th of May. And my bike is with customs at the port since you only get 3 days in Azerbaijan to transit.

So, If I was able to get my bike back, I would have to go back to Georgia for a while then go to Russia. My Uzbek visa is from May 5 to May 20 so I am still optimistic that I will get a at least a few days in Uzbek. Hopefully.

We've taken the ferry from baku to aktau ten days ago. we were waiting for a ferry for 4 days. Our ferry was leaving from the new port finally which is a few kilometers out of town. We also got the tickets there. A very annoying story. Also the police in azerbaidschan tried to give us a speeding ticked because of the radar. We pretended not to understand them then finally they gave up. In Kazachstan it took us another 3 days to get our bikes out of the customs because one important guy was on holiday. Hopefully you are more lucky!
