Chase the Sun. 12/12/12 The End.

I finally left Los Angeles on 24th of Oct. I have been traveling through Baja California and yesterday ( 11-1-12 ) arrived at Santa Rosalia. It took me about 10 days to reach this point and everything is wonderful.

I still have to figure out how to post a picture with my devices, but I will get to it soon, I hope.

I can at least share some road condition information.

1. Road from San Felipe to Bahia Los Angeles is 99% paved now.

2. Road from Viscaino to Bahia Assuncion is completely paved.

3. Dirt Road to Coco´a corner is not paved yet, but very fast comming out to the main highway.
Coco is doing great by the way. He has couple of young kids helping him out.

Well, hope to post some pics next time.

So, here we go....
Day one started from LA to San Diego. When I got to Otay Mesa, it was late in the afternoon and I decided to get a room.
I found a decent room at fair rate. And the manager let me park the bike inside the storage.

10/25/2012 Day 2

I cross the Otay Mesa border ib the morning. It took couple of hours to process all required paper works. It could have been lot quicker if not for my ignorance.

Make sure you do immigation process first!

From the Otay Mesa, I went directly to El Hongo, looking for some dirt road.

But I had to eat first.

Found the great food.


And the ride begins,


Looking back after few kilos.


Saw this,


Arrived at Casa Verde. It,s in the national park of 1857.


Set up the kitchen...


And went to sleep here.

Casa Verde has lot of history.


The original owner, an Italian gent.




And the current ownet, Senor Juan.


Off I go, after biding adios.


I pick up my bike and continue...


I am on my way to Laguna Hanson.

I met this Senor at the Rancho Bethel. He knew a Korean missionary named Jonathan Kim who set up churches near Mexicali.




Met this folks on my way out.


I hit the asfalta and be on my way to Mikes Sky Ranch. I ran into Bruno and his posses.




If you never been to Baja, this gotta be the best way to do it.

Bruno and company are heading to the Mikes Sky Ranch, so I tagged along.


Here comes the calvary. Its nice to have a peeps behind you.

So I head out to San Felipe via Laguna Diablo dry lake bed.



By now I'm feeling pretty good about myself. But not for long....



It was not going to be my last time. I don't want to bore you with repetitive pictures, so you get the idea.

Here I took break in shade.



This place has stunning view.



I was lost but found sign soon after.



With grace of divinity, I made to San Felipe safely.

I met an Aussie gent name Neil and we decided to share a room.
We found Hotel Los Angeles Southen end of S.F. it was a clean place with fair rate.

Neil has been riding for 3 months already. His journey started from Alaska and it will end at the tip of Argentina.
So I decided to tag along.



We went to Alfonsina and had the best fish tacos.

We continue to press on to Cocos.





Coco is doing great.



On the way out to Cocos place, the Viper speedometer quit working, so from now on I have no way of measuring distance nor speed. Who cares.....



And we arrived at Bahia Los Angeles at dusk and found a decent motel.

The Princess Motel is run by a ex pat.

We had breakfast with the owner.



After breakfast we jumped in Sea of Cortez.

After swim, we ran into another ex pat couple. Hello Penny and Murray.



What a wonderful people they are. We had a little party with the couple and also their neighbors showed up.

Penny offered us to stay with them.

In the morning they fed us healthy breakfast.



And the couple suggested to visit San Borja. So we went.



Some sections are rocky and sandy.



We made to San Borja.



San Borja has history. According to Juan, there used to be over 3000 cochimil people lived in the area.



Now thete are only handful people left.



Franciscan came and gave them a church and grapes. Dominican followed with soldiers and took the native as slaves and took their gold.
Meanwhile native died of back breaking works and western deases.

I asked Juan how come Cochimil people didnt fight back?
He said missionaries came with soldiers.







Neil signed the guest book and made donation.

I asked Juan, the Cochimil prince to make many babies and bid farewell.



We went to Gurrero Negro and found a place to sleep.

We left Gurrero Negro and drove through Viscaino desert.



The road is now paved all the way to Bahia Assuncion.

we left Bahia Assuncion and made our way back to s Sea of Cortez.

We arrive at Santa Rosalia. I stayed at the same motel few years ago.

Next day, we check out Santa Rosalia. The town is busy with preparation for the big Day of Death celebration.







Later afternoon, we visit my friend at San Bruno.

We take day trip to Volcano Tres Virgines.

A geo themal power plants.









Now we visit San Ignacio.







We met folks with cool toys.







San Ignacio is a cool town.



These guys taught me some Spanish.

Today morning we said good bye to my friend in Bruma de San Bruno.
We went for the microwave tower station near by.



That was the first drop of the day.



The road was paved with stones. Kinda tricky for this noob, but Neil helped me out.

The view from the top was spectacular.







And we are on our way to La Purisma. But wr stop by at Mulege.
The last hurracan did some damage to the town.
At the end of town, on ocean front we grab some coffee at El Patron.
We met Yolanda and her sister Lily. They are wonderful ladies.





On beautiful Mulege river.



It eas sad to see the damage, but locals will bounce back. They are resillient people.

On our way to La Purisma, we stop by at Playa Santispac.





After quick dip into the Sea of Cortez, we move on.

The road to La Purisma turn out to be mucho malo.



With day light running out, we made wise decision to quit while we still can.

We made it to Loreto and found decent motel with fair rate. It was 350 peso for dos perspna, but begged for 300. It worked.

we checked out from the motel, and decided to have breakfast at the zona de historica. We found a nice restaurant.



Loreto has really nice zocalo, and an impressive old mission.





Behind the mission, we cheked out a really charming hostel.







I have been to many hostels, but this place tops the list.



So we decided to stay.

Now the rest of the Loreto.









We met a local artist named Alex. He is originally from Gualalajara, but he is where he is more needed.

We liked the place so much we decided to chill at Loreto bit longer.

This morning I was invited to the resort nrar here to check out.

Villa la palma was a wobderful resprt in exquisit location.







They are working very hard to sell me this piece of paradise.



At the end, all I took from them wete few pictures.



When I came back to my humble place, this guy showed up. Here is Oscar with Abel, the owner.



He has been riding for 2 years.









Found this beutiful hotel at the center.

I stumbled upon the Posada de Las Flores during a Baja trip at the turn of the century (December 2000.) Your photos bring back fond memories. Looks like the place has changed very little in the 12 years since my friends and I enjoyed a few cervezas on the terrace near that beautiful rooftop pool. Thanks for the memories!

Met you guys at the Buffalo in La Paz yesterday... Enjoyed your great pictures.... How long are you here in the Baja?...John
