I unfortunately don't have time to participate in this ride: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=724627 but I'm planning on riding up to Pappy & Harriet's Saturday morning to see if I can catch them for lunch. If anyone's interested in coming along you're more than welcome to. I'll be leaving from Starbucks on Adams Ave (Normal Heights) around 8:30. Could of course also meet folks along the way if interested. :norton

If you're on the NE side of town I recommend Poway Motorcycle. Bill Cain is an exracer and his sidekick Bud is a damn good wrench. I have them mount my tires which costs a couple bucks but its worth supporting their little shop.

My buddy and i were thinking of mapping out a San Diego County Back Country Discovery Route gps route. The idea would be a 2 day ride with an over night in the Anza Borrego desert that hits all the major back country roads like Palmar Mountain dirt and paved roads, Pine Hills/Eagle Peak road, Boulder Creek road, Mt Laguna, Julian, Banner grade, some desert dirt roads and Otay Mountain Trunk trail. All laced together in a tour of San Diego back country. Any one have suggestions?

Sounds cool, interested to see what you come up with. My wife and I have done some cool back roads two up, but hate finding the gated private road signs on some of the once through roads:shoot

Just got to SD a couple weeks ago and the bike will be arriving in a week (cross fingers). I'll have a Thruxton and a f650gsa Dakar so guess which one will get ridden more. Would love to try something gentle as I'm 'sensitive' to dirt coming from the east coast. All we have is mud, ice and some sand!

    Welcome J,
What part of SD county are you in? There's some easy trails in the north county. If you're up that way, you might want to check this out:

You might add Black Canyon road and Nate Harrison Grade. The latter takes you up to the top of Palomar on a dirt/pavement mix. Both are almost empty on a Saturday. AMHIKT.

Is the Nate Harrison Grade the dirt road up Palamar?

Sort of. It's actually 60/40 broken blacktop/dirt. Yes, it goes up Palomar.

I'm working on my San Diego back country discovery route and need to pick a route from Alpine/Viejas Grage to Dulzura to hook up on the Otay Mountain truck trail. Thats a long segment of pavement and need a dirt road in the segment for balance. Any ideas?
