Where is the best deal for a 20# propane exchange? I think I have seen $18 bucks, maybe at Menards? Or even refill it at a farm like place? My tank for garage heat just went empty.
Around here the best place is the local gas company. The reason the exchange tanks are cheap is because they only put 15# in them and not 20.
Really? That pisses me off if it's true. I've been doing the exchange for $23 fir years now at my local quickie mart
I have a 250 gal tank and the propane company only will fill it 80% due to temperature/gas expansion maybe the same applies to the smaller tanks as well. I only get charged for the amount that is put in not the size of the tank
When the OPD (overfill protection device) valves became law in 2000 the usable size of the cylinder dropped to 18 pounds. During one of the times of record high propane prices the big stores (Walmart / Home Depot etc.) selling the exchange service demanded a lower selling price, this could only be done by reducing quantity.
I see there is only 15# in the tank. It says right on it (Blue Whino). I hate to drive all around and spend $10 in gas just to save $2 in propane. There is a refilling place about 5 miles south of me but a kid got killed about 5 years ago refilling propane tanks there. :eek1 http://www.startribune.com/local/west/47882647.html? Wally World have exchanges? I just called them and they said $17.97 for exchange to they are in the lead so far.
I've found our local Amerigas to be the best place. It costs about the same as an exchange, but they have a punch card program where every 4th tank is free, so it ends up being about 25% cheaper in the long run.
I just called local farm place in the link above and they want $18 bucks for a refill. Looks like this is going to be too much F'n around to save a few bucks. Wally world will probably have to do.
look on the handle of the tank. it should say something like 16.5tw, that's the tare weight. now get it filled up, weigh it and see if there's tw+20lbs in there. if there isn't go somewhere else. i have a few 20lbs, but i mostly use the 100lb tanks. i pay $19 for 20lbs and $73 for100lbs currently...
I think 18 is about as low as you'll pay in the cities. I'm in Bloomington and that's what I pay pretty much anywhere. Mill Fleet Farm might be less but I really don't know if they refill propane.
my neighbor said he was paying 17 at walmart as an exchange. dunno how much you get in them dealios. i recently switched (my normal place moved...) - the 2 80lb tanks i've had done were filled accurately..
Ecuador eh? I think import export costs and shipping would be a little too high. Anyway, first stop was Stooper america, $22 exchange. F that. :huh Next stop Home Depot $17.82 later and I'm full again.
