Well...I broke down today and bought the Aeroflow. It's ugly as homemade sin, but let's face it, the GS isn't exactly a beautiful buttercup. Hopefully the Aeroflow will give me smooth air. Of course, I have to wait for the 2 week backorder.
Congrats on picking something. Hey, doesn't it get kinda hot in TN? I predict your next problem will be cooling off behind the popemobile. I'm sure it will be great for winter tho!
Yeah. It gets hotter than a whore on two for one night here. I don't think anything can help much when I'm not moving, but I've always managed to get pretty good airflow when I'm covering ground. Even with the tall screens I had on the RT. If it gets up toward 100 degrees, no amount of wind is going to cool you off. It will just feel like a blast furnace. It might be a bit uncomfortable when I'm slogging through traffic at 15 or 20mph getting NO wind. But I'm guessing at slab speeds, plus my height, I'll get plenty of air. If not, I'll sell the darn thing and try something else. I can tell I'm going to spend a great deal of money trying to turn the GS into an RT. Why the heck did I dump the RT again?!? Oh, yeah...cause it was in tiny pieces on the side of the Cherohala Skyway!
I guess you better keep your checkbook warm as the Cee Bailey's GS proto's should be close at hand....Da Polar boy will be the "mouse on the wheel". You may want to give him his last rites as you all know what the Cee Baileys did to Chad's RT once installed. They are powerful shields. We just sent SMELT one of our 10 HP shields for his RT to replace the 5 HP. Damn....2 week backlog at Aeroflow for a $350 shield....shit boys...a GS may be in my future! Steve
The Cee Balieys screen will be, without a doubt, a fine piece of hardware. But as it stands now, I can't buy one, and I can't ride my bike for more that 30 minutes without getting a headache. I tried the Givi, better, but still buffetted. So I went for broke and got the Aeroflow. When the Cee screen comes along, I'll probably order one, try it, and decide which works better for me.
That's the same with my wife and I having sex, only her headache starts 30 minutes before we get to riding. Bye the way.... I thought you GS riders were supposed to be macho, outdoorsy, rough rider, no bullshit guys.....what's the problem with a little air to go with the bugs and outdoors?
Oh no...you have me confused. I'm an RT rider that managed to crash his bike, decided to get a cheaper one, and ended up with a GS. By golly...I'll get it up to RT specs if it kills me! :): Seriously...the GS is a fine bike, but it has it's shortcomings just like the RT did. I just got done adding the Jesse tail compartment to the bike. Looks great, gives me a nice luggage rack even with the rear seat installed, and now I have a place to stow the manuals, GPS, spare set of gloves, earplugs , leatherman tool, a flashlight....you know...the basics.
Great resource so far - Can the GSAdv screen be retro fitted to standard GS? - if so what else is needed?
After 6 hours in the saddle I straightened my legs by putting toes on the bottom of the stock windscreen and resting my calves on the tank, each side of the tankbag. At 85 MPH wind buffetting lessened alot. At 5'10", 32" inseam the stock windscreen works- can see over and catch wind for venting. My dream idea right now is an Aeroflow bottom that would install cleanly and still use the stock windscreen. Any ideas out there??????? RIDE ON RIDE ON RIDE ON
I was wondering if anyone had a source for the Wunderlich screen that the Flying Dutchman is using, in the US. I tried both of the european sites that are mentioned, but was unable to locate the screen. My head is fine with the stock screen, but my shoulders get smacked pretty hard on the freeway. Thanks
NEWS FLASH.....Noticed that the Cee Bailey GS SCREENS are available!!!??? Who will be first to report? Looks similar to tall Wunderlich Touring screen but without the flare toward the grips, which must help.
Hell yes! Steve and the folks and Cee Baileys have answered my prayers. I canceled my order for the hideous Aeroflow (which would probably have worked great), and hopped over to Cee Baileys site to order up a new GS screen as big as they can make one. It cost me an extra $50 to get it "giant sized", but hopefully it will be like sitting in that "Popemobile" Fish is always talking about. I can't want to strap that big barn door to the front of the GS. It's half as ugly as the Aeroflow, and exactly half the price. I got the light gray tint too. It's what I had on my RT screen and it is VERY light gray...almost clear. Just good for knocking the glare down. I know that Cee Baileys can get backlogged at times (me and the rest of the BMWRT crowd swamped him when the RT screen came out), so I'll wait patiently (since I was going to wait at least 2 weeks for the Aeroflow anyway). I'll let you all know how it works. Please hurry Steve! (Perhaps I should have paid the extra $50 to have it rushed! Darn!!) If it's as good as the RT screen was, I'll love it.
For Fyrmd You could order it directly from Wunderlich. Andreas there speaks very good English. Ring 'em up and ask for him - he was extremely helpful to me. If you require his email address then send me a private msg. cheers
Razorback, I got the same three week late message about not shipping to the good old USA. Just try and order the NEW Wunderlich Tall Touring from BMWscruz.com and you'll get last years Wunderlich which is a smoked colored ERMAX, or at least that is what they sent to me. Wunderlich's customer service sucks big time. Patrick
I think it's BMWCruz... I mean they are meant to be the US Wunderlich distributor... and so probably have some agreement with Wunderlich Germany that they have sole distributor rights to the US... Hell I'd do that if I was going to distribute their stuff!! Guess I'd ring up BMWCruz with all the details and tell them that there are a few of you that want to order it and to hurry up and pull their finger out.... Just a thought....
I've already done that, and their responce was: we don't sell the new Wunderlich screen. Wunderlich sucks. Patrick
