Trolling? TROLLING? Would I do that? OK I look (glance) on average about once per text. I don't use "text-type" I use whole words and even use caps and proper punctuation. I just want to be assured there are no typos or misspelled words. It is a safety issue. I mean really, if someone is going to text while riding they should take the time to become a proficient texter first dont you think? The risks are just too great. From reading the posts here I am beginning to think that text riding is an acquired skill to be proud of. Do be careful through the learning curve Dont forget to LOOK THROUGH THE TURN. TEXT TEXT TEXT RIDE RIDE RIDE
Be sure to wear All The Gear All The Time while Text Riding. ATGATT-lt (less thumb) I just thought of another benefit. When Text Riding one tends to weave a little. And we all know that a little lateral motion helps to make a rider more visible. A visible rider is a safe rider. OK, that was more than one... So shoot me.
saw a guy in italy riding a scoot with his helmet balanced on top of his head and texting and smoking whilst negotiating down a steep twisty road... mad skillz yo! i wanna ride like that.
I have to agree here, there is no way I can text without looking in fact I have to hold the phone in one hand and text with the other (dislocated thumb last weekend....tree & bike...ouch) as well as squint to see the screen without my glasses so I really need to concentrate. The one problem I have had is trying to get the stopping at the lights bit correct, I can shift to neutral ok without the clutch and the braking with the rear only is coming along fine. Just a side note here, I have come to admire the Harley guys that only use the rear brake, I hadn't appreciated the level of skill required to anticipate your braking points when only using the rear, God knows how they can sense the cars pulling out on them early enough to brake...I am struggling a bit with that. Anyway, I can stop and be in neutral and with a bit more practise will be able to maintain a stream of coherent texting through out the manouver but as the 640 is fairly tall I need to get the sidestand down so I don't "lay the bike down". It has a strong return spring and is ackward to get down and the bike resting on it successfully, I have tried removiing the spring but the noise from it dragging along the ground is distracting so am hoping to try a series of strings attached to my left foot, raise the toe and the stand goes down, raise the heel and the stand raises, something like the heel and toe shifts we used to have. Anyway I am struggling with that part so any suggestions would be gratefully received. Must rush out & practice, it's rush hour here now so the traffic is moving slowly enough to lane split which I have found helpful, using your peripheral vision only for the cars on either sides means you don't need to be always glancing up to see what's ahead.
This guy is doing a good job at it: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lAccOr_QVGc&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lAccOr_QVGc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I'm a little confused on this whole subject. Wouldn't Harley riders have some sort of moral obligation to mount up an IBM Selectric on the handlebars? I mean, I can see the GSXR/ Moto RZR, Goldwing/ G1, DR650/Startac combos...
That would fit quite nicely in front of the handle bars on the KLR... I definitely don't need to see the speedometer because there's nothing speedy about a KLR. Seems like if you're not a proficient texter while riding, there's only one way to get better.
You guys are killing me with the typewriter jokes! But seriously, getting back on topic, I have noticed that young women (16 - 24) are all very proficient at texting. Maybe the safest thing to do is ride with a young woman on the back and have her do all the texting. <?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" oreferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><vath o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></vath><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shapetype> One like this would work nicely: <v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" oreferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"><v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><vath o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></vath><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shapetype> She looks like she does not weigh much. Oh yes, a foxy proxy… You may be on to something!!! Some tight fitting ATGATT… A Text Master Vixen. Fu*kable Farkles what will come next?
I mean texting while riding. Seems counterproductive to riding safely to put it politely. But really I hope anyone who texts while they ride meets there end doing it. It's bad enough all these assholes doing it in their cages, running down anything in their path. But now I have to look for retards on bikes too. Please flame away, tell me I'm the suckey rider cuz I can't (wouldn't) text while I ride. Meanwhile please don't kill any one while you're texting your reply.
With a screen name like Antisocialtendencies I would have thought you would jump on board. Welcome to the Asylum n00b. You just need more practice. Text Riding is an acquired skill.
I tried texting while riding the motorcycle, but it was just too distracting. Every time someone texted me I had to put down my beer so I could reply! Sheesh!
Jeeze, relax! Have you tried texting? Just look up once in a awhile, no big deal! What are you afraid of someone turning left in front of you or something? Eric
