Sorry, by "how do you find" I meant "how do you like"?

The reason I ask is the Safari tank is quite wide just forward of that point, and where he has them mounted is where I normally have my knees.

OK I will back up a little.

After Carrizozo we headed out in the mountains near Ruidoso for some fun riding. It was very nice. Especially after we took 288 toward Alamogordo.

We also stopped at White Sands NM

We also went to the missile base 30 miles down the road. The visitor stuff was closed but Chris convinced the guard to let us walk through the "museum"

We ended the day in Deming. The Motel 6 was cheap but the WiFi did not work. A bummer since I had a lot I wanted to do and check.

I did do some laundry. Here is Chris waiting for the dryer.

We also ordered pizza. A bit of a tradition when Chris and I travel together.

The next day we parted ways. Chris continued to Tucson. I went over the border at Columbus/Paloma.

It went reasonably smoothly with the exception of the customs guy trying to get a $45 bribe for not having an exit stamp. It is a longer story than I want to type now but he was nice enough when he believed me that I only had three bucks until I found a bank. He just put a stamp in.

I was done with that and the TVIP for the bike in 30 minutes. That is why I like that crossing.

But I rode down to Buenaventura. Stayed again at the Hotel Valle Grande.

300 pesos. It is a nice enough little town.

Where are you crossing? Columbus/Palomas or farther west?

Which gets me back to today.

Not much exciting but about a 500km ride from Buenaventura to Hidalgo Del Parral.

Hotel Acosta was hard to find. Turned out I spoke to a guy who had lived in Steamboat springs for 10 years. He told me how to get there.

Nice parking a private room with bath and a fan for 275 pesos. Next to the zocalo and with Internet.

It works fine for me. It is at my knees but it doesn't interfere with my normal riding position. It is actually better than the cheap ones I had there before.

    Made it to Durango.

Had my first rain of the trip yesterday. And saw my first tarantula. Unfortunately it was right before I ran over it.

The WiFi is not working well enough to upload photos yet.

Going back to HDP I wanted to show the view from the roof. A pretty square.

Now I made it to Zacatecas. Pretty city. Found a cool hostel.

I'm in, especially since I like the "traveling light" approach too and am looking forward to learning how it works out for you. My plan is similar.

    Here is the cathedral.

I am glad. And so far traveling light has been just right. Especially with parking. Getting into tight places or even weaving through city traffic is a ton easier. No regrets at all so far.
