Burnszilla - just placed an order today for bmw plug type front right fairing. Thanks for the fix.

Couple weeks ago I had the bike cut out on me soon after I left home. Waited a bit and started back up again. Thought it was electrical. Brought in '08 bike for 10k service and they couldn't start the bike up and said fuel pump needs to be replaced. Figured I'd get a fix in case it happens again.

i just order one bypass to socket . and now i found out your recommendation that is better to connect to battery instead. So does it work via side power socket?

It works via the side power socket it you wire the socket thru a fuse to the battery. The fuel pump is about 7amps and will trip the 5 amp canbus side seat socket. Most folks rewire that side socket directly to the battery so they can power their heated clothing.

How long can you run the fuel pump without the controller? Do you run the risk of burning up the fuel pump itself?

My controller just died yesterday. I fabbed up a bypass myself to an SAE connector. Bike started right up and ran just fine. Dealer said 7 days to get a replacement controller. I want to ride though!

Also anybody know of a dealer in the US that keeps the controllers in stock?

I'm not sure if anyone knows, but I wouldn't ride long distances with it. I would keep the gas tank full to keep the pump cool.

    Guys,
Let me know if you ever experience a failure and have to use the cable. I'm interested in hearing your story.

I just got a call from a guy in New Mexico who said his friend's 2008 R1200GS ADV had the fuel controller fail. Looks like the new tank design with 'better drainage' is not working.

just ordered.....already had this failure once...I guess if the bypass arrives before I have it again...I'll never have another one... :-)

    Great product idea!

Just ordered one. Hopefully bike will start after I put it on.

Do you have a link that talks about re-wiring the accessory plug to the battery. I don't want to piss off the can.

    Thanks.
