Keep the KTM 690 or get KTM 990 or 1190

OK fellow inmates, I need some input here. Saturday I was at the KTM shop getting my 2011 690 re mapped and like a good salesman the guy shows me the 2013 990 Baja. My 690 is completely tricked out, springs, FMF Q4 pipe, Wolfman bags, RR fuel tanks, seat. . Etc. So help me out what would you guys do and why would you do it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sometimes I wish I got a 690 when I'm riding tight trails. But then I realize that if I had got a 690, I would have wished I had a 990.

Sounds like you are tempted by 990/1190 just because you don't have them, it happens all the time. I would love to have a white 990, if I had it I'm sure I'll be looking for an orange one.
And then of course is the question of intended use ...

Yes! ^ We can't decide for you we don't know how or what you ride. :huh
But since you ask, I'd keep the 690 as the other 2 are pigs for what I would use the 690 for, and I already have a pig, F800GS.

To the topic the 990 is pretty darn heavy in rough stuff but I've done some big rides on it (coast to coast and back in a short time hitting parts of the tat) that would have been really tough on a smaller bike with shorter service intervals

Having done those rides though, something lighter sure would be nice for some rougher trail riding in the sierra. Not that the 990 couldn't do it in the right hands though

Well tks to you all. Good point that I didn't state in the first post. I ride in NV and UT mostly on FS roads I don't do very much of the trail stuff at all. Too old and too slow. Out in NV you have to have 300 range to get anywhere, that's why the RR tanks. Lots of two lane pavement with towns over 70 miles apart. The 690 is just OK as a highway bike but great off road. I am riding to AK this summer. Keep your inputs coming.

Sounds like an Adventure would suit you well then. I loved my 690 but it sure was not comfortable for long rides on any kind of highway. The 1190 will probably have a bit more fuel range which should help. Since you aren't trail riding, the switch sounds like a no brainer.

Get used 990. Fit it with street tires and get 450 / 550 / 640 enduro with the leftover money.

Or

Get used 990. Fit it with knobbies and get crotch rocket or touring bike with the leftover money.

Or

Get 990, fit it with 50/50 tires and ride it anywhere anytime. Start exercising deadlift.

I had a Husky TE610 and loved the bike when it was running... I was also looking for something with more range and comfort yet still good off road. So I ended up with a 990 ADV going on 5 years now and LOVE IT
Buy the 990 and get the suspension done right for you by super plush or some on that knows what they are doing and you will never look back!!
The 990 is simply amazing off road and with the suspension set up I can take it where I had the Husky and more! Last fall I took the long way to the rally and put about 3000 miles on in a week, no problem!

P.S. I rode the 1190R at the rally and am going to keep the 990 and buy a 690... Maybe
