"Just took delivery on the 2013 800GS last Friday. It is taller than I expected. After three years on a 650 GS I was growing a hunchback. I'm 6'2" and was getting very tired of how short the 650 was starting to feel" So straightening your legs a little helps prevent a hunchback?? GH
So sad ... it has no one to talk to.... Do you have time to pop the seat and take a shot of the top shock mount ... I am in agreement with recent chatter that it would be nice to know if BMW has done anything in this regard....
Not sure what you are looking for but here are some pics. Hopefully I captured what you are looking for...
:eek1 Oh whow! So.....clean! Thanks but in order to show the fixation point you'd have to remove the filter panel, cut those zipties around that plastic piece wich holds the canbus conector and also remove it. I was just asking out of curiosity, it's not worth all the trouble! Cheers
Thanks for the reply about the switches. I had not thought about all the extra stuff in the switch assembly forcing them to make them smaller. I guess time will tell if the switches on the 800 and 700 will also have issues. The auto-cancel feature is handy, Jon...
I have only had my F650 for ten months and my testosterone levels are so low I have scheduled a sex change! I figure when they cut my balls off I can get closer to the tank and my hunchback will go away! I am sure I will feel more comfortable on my bike as a girl. GH
GH41, i just couldn't get your point, don't need to be upset :) If there's a thing in which bikes are the same it's the driving position. Relax and ride safely
Anybody else find it odd that there has been so little info online about the F700GS since the July 2nd announcement? US BMW doesn't even have pricing on their site. I don't expect the mags to have tests yet, but after three months you would expect some online tests to start appearing.
I usually get my MSRP pricing information from San Francisco BMW. http://www.bmwmotorcycle.com/2013_bmw_f700gs_info.htm
Patrick: Thanks for that pricing link! General: Somehow I glazed over on the "comfort seat" option .... has that been discussed / pictured and I missed it?
Pretty sure I'm picking up a F700GS Thursday. It's a 230 km ride home, so I'll have some impressions by the time I get home. The shop also has a 1200GS.....always thought they were too tall...but if they have a low seat (31") I might be headed home on that instead....ya just never know. Lyle
skysailor: I have an '11 F650GS (13K miles) and an '09 R1200GS (35K miles). I am 5'8", 170 pounds with a 29" inseam. The F650GS has been modified with Ricor valves in the forks and an aftermarket shock in the rear and this improved the the bike a lot. I also raised the forks a tad (4mm) to shift a little more weight up front. I can flat foot the bike and it is a really nice ride with what I think is a great motor. When on dirt roads I think that first gear is a little too high and have to use the clutch a fair amount. Very easy and satisfiying bike to ride though. The R1200GS has a Sargent Low seat that is a great improvement for me. I can't flat foot but I don't exactly tippy toe either. The R1200 is probably about 60 pounds heavier than the F650GS but it carries the weight low and is really easy to ride including on dirt roads. Of the two bikes I honestly prefer the R1200. Try both the F700GS and the R1200 and keep an open mind.
The bike in this thread (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=828912) has a comfort seat on it.
Thanks ............... that looks more comfortable than stock .... I wonder why it ISN'T the stock seat? If I upgrade from my F658GS to the 700, I'll order the comfort seat for $145 I think it is ... then figure out whether to keep my Sargent or the comfort with the new bike!
