Has anybody ridden this road in the past year or so or know anybody who has? We would really like to include the Alamo road in a big trip out to Nevada and back in May. A few guys from Las Vegas tried to ride it a year or so ago and said in their RR that it looked seriously closed so they didn't take it. They posted a picture of a closure sign that looked pretty grim. We rode it many years ago and there was a closed sign then, but it was one of these beat-up/shot-up signs. We ignored it and had no problems. If I get desperate, I will give the DNWR admin office a call. I really hate to do that though. Asking government employees for permission to do something is nearly always a loser.
I ride the lower part often... Hwy 93 through Brown Crossing... Have not been all the way to Interstate 40. There are some rough spots North of Alamo Lake, may be difficult for big-bikes. Some guys from Tucson were wanting to know about Brown Crossing a few weeks ago. I sent some pix. Perhaps you can search my old threads for pix's. Send a report if you make the trip...
Thanks for the info, but I don't think we are talking about the same place. The Desert National Wildlife Refuge is north of Las Vegas Nevada. I think US 93 does run on the east side of it, but it is nowhere near I-40. I will find a map and put it here shortly.
Here is a map of the DWNR. It is hard to see but the Alamo road runs south to north just west of the green mountain range. We rode thru here a couple of years ago in late April and ran into this. We rode the Mormon Wells road east to west from US 93 to US 95.
Yeppp, different Alamo Road. Of course there is that one in Texas also! I'm talking of the one in AZ and a wildlife refuge near the CO River. Have a great trip...
The NV Alamo road North of Vegas is closed, I was ticket for not following posted signs when I rode it on my ruckus....I asked why it was closed and was told hazardous conditions. I laughed and said I just ride it on a 49 cc moped and it was smooth as a graded road.
Thanks for the info. When did you get the ticket? How much was the fine? Did they make you turn back? Is the road passable all the way to Alamo? I really want to ride it again. I would be willing to pay a moderate fine to do so. I suspect the odds of getting caught are pretty low.
