I found it didn't take that long to be competitive. I spent some time over the weekend, and the game mechanics came clear to me. The servers do a pretty decent job of balancing the tank levels, and a good player with a crap tank can still have a lot of fun. I'm getting 3-5 kills in every 5th game or so with a light tank w/minimal firepower, based on tactics and technique.
Yeah most of the times the matches are far. From time to time you get someone that has a tank and crew at max level and you get owned but for the most part starting out it comes down to luck. You learn where to hide and snipe. And get sniped. A good team makes all the diffrence.
Definitely not a game where twitch gamers with attentions spans of a gnat have all the advantage.....c'mon spagthorpe, jump in, the water is fine.
Part of the reason I die so much, too much Unreal Tournament play. I'm used to a frantic pace, high rate of fire and a bit more agile play, oh and respawning immediately after death. I updated the first post with everyone's names...
Im happy to report that I have killed a few tanks with the junky T1 and 20mm cannon. I have to sit and wait for them to come to me, but whatever. Starting to dig the game. When the wife has the TV and she is watching garbage.....this game kills time very well
I use to play UT2004 alot. Got into WOW and have been playing it for the last 5 years or so. So i'm use to a slower game. I do miss the fast FPS but in WOW you better have a few hours to play. with this 30 minutes and you've got two battles or more.
Broke down and bought a T-50. Heading for the T-50-2, the little bastards can circle you faster than your turret can spin!
Try the fully upgraded MS-1....it may be slow, but it packs a big punch with the top end gun. Yeah, but my "few rounds" while the wife is watching her shows usually turns into "shit, it's midnight, one more round and I gotta get to bed!" way to regularly.....
So it's not just me? I added the 75mm howitzer to my m2 last night. Boy! Does that surprise the little guys!
Sunday afternoon, I took on a T2 medium and a M3 Lee (or maybe it was a M2 medium with the little gun, I'll have to go back to the replay and look) with my M2 medium/derp gun.......had to play hide-n-seek around a building with them to get it where I only had to deal with one at a time, but I got both of them. I'd say it's because I was good but the truth is they were just unlucky and got a bunch of shots on me that either bounced or were 0 damage module hits. I'm still surprised I didn't get a Steel Wall award out of that battle. Wait 'til you mount that 75mm on the M5 Stuart. It's fun now (got me my first Sniper when I was just messing around), but I can't wait until I have the crew in my M3 Stuart ready to move up so I can see what a high level crew can do with it.
I started playing last night and am running into a problem with my system perhaps. My cursor drags very slowly when playing which makes it difficult to do much. Anybody else having similar problems.
I just turned down some of the graphics, and it sped right up. Depending on server load, though, I see wide variety in performance... sometimes it bogs down and I'm getting 5-10 fps, other times it ripping over 60. Just don't try running something else like a webpage, or other programs with the game, and manage the window size and you should see improvements.
What CPU/Video cards are you guys running? I was getting 100 fps so I checked settings and was set pretty low. I'm now running Medium settings at 1920x1080 and average 50fps with a dip in the 30's now and then. Plays nice and smooth. My specs are nothing fancy: Core2duo at 2.9ghz Nvidia 9800GT 2GB RAM XP Pro
My system specs are: Intel Core i7 860 @ 2.8GHz 4 GB of RAM 64 bit Windows 7 Radeon HD 5700 at 2048 x 1152. I typically run 30-40 FPS with just about maxed graphics which is plenty smooth enough to get good play.
Athalon 2.70 2mb RAM Vista 32 bit And I threw an Nvidia Amazon Special ($35!) PCI-e card with 1g at it recently.
Ok, that was fun....OConnor and I platooned up tonight. If we can get 15 of us (one with a premium account), we could fight a tank company battle.
dont need everyone platooned up, one guy can host a room and then pick and choose who gets into his team.
That's a company battle....but we still need 15 of us to make a pure ADV company and you have to have a premium account to open up a tank company or clan....
