I have a /5 that's going to be parted out (motor, gearbox and hubs are great, the rest of it is a wreck and/or missing). I've got a nice /6 "dirtbike" that I'm keeping. Rear wheel question -- I have a new set of 140mm stainless spokes, and a new 18" rim. I want a spare rear wheel for my /6 (for street-friendly tires). Will the /5 hub work on the /6 final drive, or do I need to find a /6 hub to build the spare wheel?
I was over at a friends doing a dry assembly on his racer project and he had two rear wheels, one had 3 ribs and one had 4... the 4 ribbed one was about 3-5 mm wider but they both fitted the /6 drive fine. I think the wider one was /5 as it had a groove where the hub cap would go. I'm running a a much later final drive on mine but the the /5 wheel fits straight on....and the wheels are in alignment. I have no idea if the factory approved of this but it works for me
Completely interchangeable including the guts. The only difference is the really early /5's had a felt inner seal.
The drive dog (wheel spline) on the /6 is longer/deeper and cheaper to buy than the /5 unit. Woodgrain
