wanted to bump this for any new ideas.. planning to carry for fuel on my RR, going with the MSR and maybe the 2GAl rotopax

I still don't see anyone using my idea.

The extra large tool tube will hold a 2L bottle of pepsi (but not coke, oddly enough). Two of those tubes mounted empty weigh nothing, when you need some fuel, empty out a couple of 2L bottles and slide em right in. 4L = just over a gallons of fuel.

.is it safe to carry fuel with those 2liter soda jug? any leaks or issue?

I had one melt on me.Good thing it was in the back of a PU.I don't know if it was due to fuel additives or ethanol added by the refiner.I wouldn't trust one on a moto.

Is there any issues with carrying extra fuel across the Canadian border? Heading up to Alaska this summer and would like to use a Rotopax system. I don't want any hassles or worse have to leave my can at the border.

I know a few people that have made the crossing without issue.However,they had fuel approved containers securely mounted to their bikes.JDRocks is one of the guys that has made that crossing a few hundred times or so.

I would assume the Rotopax is an approved container and I plan on using their mounting system. Anyone with Rotopax, specific border crossing experience, feel free to chime in.

I've never had an issue, I also routinely kept fuel stored in fuel bottles. In fact, south of the border you can routinely find gasoline sold this way. Green bottles are diesel, clear bottles are regular fuel.

What was it that melted? The cap? What kind of bottle was it? I know that for instance, a milk jug uses a different type of plastic than a soda bottle, and the new extra thin water bottles use an even thinner type of plastic, but I have yet to have an issue with a good old 2L bottle of pepsi.

I did notice that the newer 1.25 and 1.5l bottles of soda have some writing about using thinner plastic.

Basic 2 liter soda bottle.It was one of those smooth sided bottles with the crimped looking bottom.The bottle melted.Not like heated and melted.It got really soft and started weeping gas.When I picked it up the sides split.I think it had something to do with ethanol/alcohol in the fuel.It's been a few years back.

I'm sure when crossing border , if it was an issue . Just pour it into everyone's tank . And travel with it empty.

I've also looked at the MSR bottle and they're nice but can only carry so little ,30 fl oz only.

I'm sure the Rotopax system would look a lot more professional than my setup I used last summer when going to Newfoundland.



They didn't give me any problems with this setup.

This may be a bit of an assumption, so take it for what it's worth, but Rotopax is sold in Canada (I have one) and I can't imagine there being any issues with it coming across the border. Unless of course you are transporting something other than fuel

They carry so little.

Hmm I'm planning to strap a 2gal and a 1 gal jug on my bike.

They are... That doesn't mean they can't sell them in Canada.

Okay, so I have seen other fuel containers shape like the MSR ones , but are a bit different and bigger. Any idea what brand they are ?
