The heating element on my carb broke.
Must I replace this, or will the bike operate OK without it?
In SF Bay Area, California so not the same as Michigan...

    Thanks for any help

I had same issue - it broke when I was pulling wire out. I JBwelded it together and put it back.
    Works fine.
You probably dont need it, but if you go up at elevation where it's colder you may freeze carb. Unlikely, but possible.

YUP, they do that. I've broke a lot and found a lot broke. The 03-04's don't have these, do they freeze up?

I own a Dec 2003 and experienced carb freezing twice. The temp was 8C very damp weather and 12C raining. That is not very often, is it? in 9 years. The location was Greece in mountainous areas.
    Cheers.

If its already back together I wouldn't worry about it, order the part so you'll have it on hand next time you're in there. I probably went 50k without one.
