Be aware that next weekend is different than the big steam show that takes place later in the summer. I'm not saying there won't be a lot of neat stuff to see, but it's probably on a different scale than the steam show.

Damn those folks know you only wash your equipment when it rains. You can't be seen on a clean bike. People might start to talk. You got a reputation you must up hold.

We are back, trip nowhere near the size and scale of Chris's by any means. But it was a terrific 3 day'er through the Appalachians.
We rented a U-Haul, & drove to Wilkesboro NC.

Left at noon and was at the motel at 2130. Next am, we unloaded the bikes and dropped the truck across the street at the local U-Haul, had breakfast and started the 875 mile backroad trip north. A good way to see, converse and eat, real, unaltered Appalachia.
It was amazing how as soon as we crossed the Potomac River from Paw Paw WV into Maryland, the southern draw was instantly gone. Interesting.

A small hamlet in WV. Inside the local mean gathered for coffee and gossip. Wood floor and pigs knuckles in a jar on the counter. Very friendly folks and made a point to include us in the conversation. Very different lifestyle then most of us experience here. No rush hour, in fact no rush at all (lol), lawn mower talk, whose wife baked a pie, that sort of stuff. Simple and stress free I suppose.

Great plan to u-haul and ride back--love it. And your VA border crossing is THE thing, I think, we all try to get to (there's one from ME to OT that I've heard of)...love it.

Some plans this year to proof a loop from State College to State College Thinking it'll be the end of June.

Glad you gents had a great ride AND made it home in time.

Here's a tip, do not accept the price they give you on the web. I got $300 knocked off it.
