As weird as it may sound, changing the handlebar helped for me. It helped as with a straighter bar, rotated forward some (for better standing position) I'm now sitting more forward, right at the lowest spot of the seat, more support for the ... and no more fighting not to slide forward and such. I like the stock S/R seat for offroad and short rides as it is lower than my other seat. For long rides I have a Renazco.
Yes, the stock seat is pretty painful. I have tried a Corbin on my 990r and it was an improvement over stock but very slippery. The Corbin is really flat and quite a bit wider than stock so it basically gives you the worst of both worlds - meaning it is flat so when riding the distance to the footpegs is reduced - leading to cramped knees. At the same time it is significantly wider so it spreads your legs out which means it is a longer reach to the ground. Overall, not so bad solo but with a passenger it really sucks - my wife was constantly sliding into me every time I hit the brakes. Then I saw that Renazco were selling an "ergo" version of the 990r seat. It is so much better than stock and so much better than the Corbin that it isn't really a fair comparison. It is also a tiny bit wider and a good bit taller than stock so even though I am 6'3" it is now a stretch to get more than half of one foot down (especially if you are running knobby tires) but the comfort is more than worth it. Also has the very cool orange stripe that matches up nicely with the tank stripes on the 990r. Good grippy cover on it and definitely all-day comfortable and priced quite reasonably - I think I paid 322$ including shipping and paying via PayPal. Also only took about 2.5 weeks for it to be delivered. Renazco is the bee knees for sure. Cheers
I just traded with another inmate for his Seat Concepts seat. I had a stock seat, and he had a somewhat used Seat Concepts. I bought his old seat so that he could use my seat pan for a new Seat Concepts seat. I have to say, this seat is the best I've ever owned. When this seat wears out, I'll be sending it back to Seat Concepts for a refresh. No more "perfect seat" searches for me. http://www.seatconcepts.com/products#!/~/product/category=1671352&id=7082004 Best of luck in your search.
Renazco here. Comfy and supportive. I live nearby, and was able to meet with James personally to discuss my needs. Super nice guy, got me squared away and I haven't looked back. G
Renazco is a great seat comfort wise. Only problem I have with mine is when it gets wet it takes a while to dry out. I've put the origianal seat back on mine at the minute as its starting to rain more here in ireland so don't fancy sitting on a water retainer but during the summer months and if caught in a light shower it did great. Mine is cover in Black Suede.
I too have a Renazco I bought second hand. Firm, comfy, and much flatter than the stock seat, so easier to move forward/back on. Its suede, which gives it its grip, but when it gets wet, it stays wet.
2,000 miles so far on my new Saddlemen seat. Bike had a Corbin on it when I bought it. Hated that seat. Love the new one. It's narrower, has the suede like material in the seating area, and cutout center for tailbone relief. I hear the Renazco seat is the bees knees, but I wanted to throw in a vote for the Saddlemen, because I'm so happy with it.
XPC seats Excellent fit, 2 week turn around. Many thousands of miles and the suede cover is still in perfect shape. Added an inch to an already tall S spec bike.
I've just returned to the UK after an alps trip, 2000+miles in 10d, on road on a 2013 990 ADV and I found it to have the most comfortable stock seat I've ridden. Maybe it's my butt just fitting the seat but I have ridden decent distance on a Stelvio, Sprint ST 995i, 1150 GS and a 650 Versys. The Versys was torture, everything else was uncomfortable compared to the stock 990. I wonder if KTM have modified the seat over time?
Has anyone owned a Renazco and a Seat Concepts? The Renazco is twice the cost. I can go either way, I'm just looking for the right seat.
I'm curious as well. I have the Seat Concepts seat and while I'm reasonably happy with it, and it's waterproof, on really long days it still isn't as great as I think it could be. It might also be due to some interference with the seat and the tailbone pad in my riding pants though. The seat came with the bike, so I didn't really have to make the choice myself.
I see a strong lean towards renazzco....Does this also apply for two up? or are there better options out there for that?
