To do at least SOMETHING motorcycling related, wintertime is planning time. Too often the bike remains in the garage lately and as the past few days have been quiet bad around here, I quickly set' up this trip which I did promiss to a bunch of friends quiet a while ago after I came back from one of my last trips to Corsica.

So, if any one of you FF's fanzy joining us, just feel free to let me know. In the meantime, there's lots to read and for those who intend to go to Corsica just somewhen but not now, there are half a dozen google-maps to find on page 2 which cover quiet some very fine ground of the place.

Are you staying in one hotel during the entire stay?

If not, I can recommend...Hotel Mare e Festa in Solenzara which will cover your trips in the southern half of Corsica.

Although not the fanciest place I've stayed in, it was the most reasonable at €40 with a full breakfast back in 2006. And best of all, the Mediterranean was 5 meters off my back window.

    This was the smallest cabin...

Other cabins were much larger and had a kitchen.

And the view from the window of my cabin...

    Cheers Alex,
the plan is to do a loop and not staying in one place more than one night. Indeed Solenzara has been the village which it gave me some hard time finding a cool place to stay. So I changed the trip a little bit to finally stay in Proto Vecchio at that night. I anyway find Pto.Vecchio qualifies quite good for a stayover as because it offers also some kind of a "nightlife".
What's up?! Don't you want to joine us....;-)

    ah.. Solenzara....
what sounds exotic and sexy to some may sound dreadful to others.....
When I did my army, one of the base was Solenzara.
Remote, empty, harsh..... a lot of words came to describe the base.
we were afraid to be sent there.
Hopefully, I didnt have to know the place !
So one day, yes, I'll go to Corsica and pay a visit to Solenzara....in a civilian way.:D

LOL, there are "places" like this everywhere.... mine are not on Corsica, but who would guess that places like Andermatt, Schwyz or Davos can be connected to much worse than nice motorbiking-, hikeing or skiing memory's...;-)

Although not too early for Corsica, too early for me though as I will be in Europe in June.

Solenzara is a town...not the air base many miles north of it. When I had breakfast at Hotel Mare e Festa, I'd see the Mirages coming in for a landing.

Solenzara isn't big, but it isn't anything like "remote, empty and harsh".

don't get me wrong here, GR, we were referring to the army base, not the town.

Here up at Villa Culo we have started to worry. We are professional worry-ists, and ask ourselfs: What is the food like?
Will we be able to go to bed every night with that foolish look one gets when the food is simply outstanding in it's austerity?
Will the wine be so good that we don't spend the evenings longing for Toscana?
What about the coffee in the morning?

These are the things we worry about. Everything else is in the hand of Cooltours, and will be taken care of.

Or, in other words: We'll be there!

....darn.... Tage! This is a full hit of the weak point; directly, ruthless and blunt... Yes, we have a serious problem here. I am very sorry, but I seem to be the first telling you that it's a worldwide well known fact, that the French don't know how to boil a good coffee...:-( So it's infact more important to bring one of these...

....for a tour on french soil, than bringing raingear, tools or even roadmaps!

:clap :thumb Wow! That thing seems to roll indeed! Very cool!! :thumb

We will discuss this later more in detail, but I assume you'd prefere taking the ferry from Livorno instead of detouring up to Savona...

Thanks for the PM Cooltours. I am most interested... really have to look at the finances though, and when my parents come up from South Africa to see their new grandson due in February. Times are getting pretty tough. Put me down as a "Possibly".

Just as Cooltours got flooded with, what shall I say, family issues, we got flooded with practical issues related to our work.
So Cooltours' "issues" for a while seemed to be the excuse we needed to bail out.
Sorry I haven't replied to your emails - we were working on our issues at this end.

But, Lo and Behold, out of nowhere comes this guy Bjørnar (blog here); here seen with a bottle of my home-made limoncello.
He is on a six month "Giro Europa", and sent us an email saying that he was looking for work. A week in May, alone in my house
with my collection of wines was just what he needed.:huh He'll take care of things.

So, anyway, this means that we're in, too.

This trip looks very, uh, cool. Thinking about joining if I can shift some air tickets and possibly talk a friend into shifting weeks. I know Tage a little; at least as much as I could get to know him over a plate of his famous pasta...
