great point on the Cam Chain.. isnt the one "fault" on the 610's the requirement to crack the case around 11k and replace the cam chain?? for you that is like one month of riding.. so while they are in there they should do it.

Timing chain is a 1 day/$150 job, and is hit or miss as far as regularity.

but if the bike's apart, it's just the price of the chain.

Wow, I would have flipped out if I flew to buy a bike and it wouldn't shift. How could any seller not know that? As a seller I would have felt obligated to cover the airfare.

    PASS ON THIS BIKE!

hey now - that is a bummer.
I would not be too keen on keeping on with this one. I have traveled to purchase vehicles and bought them against my better judgment because they were "rare" and I could fix them. none have been worth it.

that said - I will be in Jacksonville off and on later this summer (August and September). I can help with transportation back up - and I may even have a empty container coming up to MA in early Oct. - I'm pretty sure you are not interested in waiting that long but figured I'd throw it out there.

Come take the 530 for a rip. you'll be saying "what 610"?

    SHEESH.

Why are all you girls (ok there's only one real girl here) so 'fraid of a bike that's been apart?

You all drive cherry BMWs that have only ever had their oil changed, too? :lol3

Sorry that the bike had something messed up. :cry Probably won't be the last, and I imagine wasn't the first disappointment on this type of purchase at least? :freaky

If it was purchased as-is and the seller disclosed all known facts, details, etc.; how do you decide who to put the financial burden upon?

This is a tough one, I don't care who you are.

If the seller takes it back after 2 miles, where is the cut-off? 20, 50, 1000 miles? What happened to as-is?

I just came across this trip and found out - sorry to hear about your experience. I know how much you were looking forward to the bike and the trip :-(

Capt. REDBEARD - that is a very generous offer from you.

I honestly think that given the circumstances, I would move on as well. Even if you get this fixed, you will forever wonder what else did you miss and why did this bike have this problem. It is a beautiful bike, but more will be found around...
