Rideadv is a brand new ride series launching in 2014 formalising the longstanding relationship between Adventure Moto, Yamaha Australia and Old Bull Trailriders.

Greg "TB" Yager of Old Bulls and Steve "Wolfman" Smith of Adventure Moto have formed RideADV.com.au to run a series of Adventure Navigation Rides. In 2012 they started organizing GPS Navigation rides and they have proven to be a huge success attracting hundreds of riders of all levels and skill sets. Some of the better known riders to join us in 2013 are Australia's Mr Motocross Stephen Gall, Enduro legend Geoff Ballard, everybody's mate Clubby and Superbike champ Shawn Giles. It seems everyone wants to Rideadv. However, our rides are geared not only at legends of the sport but average riders who simply want to challenge themselves, grow and have fun. The routes are set out for all skill sets and bikes in mind. We run two routes most days, a standard and a special. Each route is swept by two sweep riders and is checked in the wee hours on the morning by the two lead riders. These guys make sure you can enjoy your ride without any nasty surprises.


The Rideadv mantra is, 'It's Your Ride, Your Adventure'... so ride Safe! Remember a navigation ride becomes your ride, you do your own pace all day. Stop, take pictures, lunch or ride it’s your ride.

Now while the evil web designer is still working on our new Rideadv website we have put together a rough outline of what we are offering. Remember keep checking on the web site as it will be a hub of information on every aspect of Adventure riding when we get it up and running.


- BEST RIDING PRACTICE! To put together any ride takes time and commitment. Usually we do 3-4 pre runs to set a route that everyone can do safely (or as safe as we can make it) It’s all good, we are doing what we love but unlike throwing a ride together for a couple of mates where we have no idea what is in front of us, we take on the responsibility of ensuring the route we end up with is safe yet challenging and it has to be done to provide the best riding off road we can provide. So far we have some fantastic feedback on our routes and we need to put in the effort to keep this up.

- SUPPORT! On every ride we try to have at least two support vehicles. So far on nearly every ride we have conducted, we have picked up bikes that have had mechanical issues, or riders that have needed medical attention. On a ride thrown together with your mates, this would normally be the end of the ride for everyone. By having a supported ride we can ensure that the ride goes on for the majority while giving the absolute best care and attention to those needing support.


- TEAM EFFORT! Also on every ride, apart from the pre running, we have lead riders and sweep riders. These guys are there for you. They are the guys you depend on to keep the ride going and get you safely to the end of the trail. They take the worry and stress away and will even help you get your bike out of a bog, over a creek, or up that snotty hill. They are the guys that sit with you when you or your bike is broken and can go no further. They are the guys that will get you home at the end of the day.

- INSURANCE! We have had to take insurance out to cover ourselves. Not everyone in this crazy world wants to take responsibility for his or herself. So while you agree if you are on our ride to be responsible and ride a registered bike and be aware and take care; and we agree to make the ride eventful and accessible, challenging but as safe as possible… “SHIT HAPPENS” and we need to have some protection so we can feel safe in offering you the best Adventure rides we can come up with. We hope that you all know what you are doing is crazy… “Strapping a container of fuel on a motor with wheels and sitting on it and riding cross-country to seek adventure”. But we also know that one-day, someone with a lesser understanding than you will want to blame us when something stupid happens. Insurance is a necessary evil.

- ADVENTURE RIDER TRAINING! While we know that many of our participant riders are skilled. There are others amongst you who feel they could get some dedicated Dual Sport or Off-road rider training to enable them to participate and enjoy the sport at a higher level. No matter your level of experience you can always brush up or learn from the experts. Along with our 2014 ride series; we will be introducing some rider training workshops with some of Australia’s best known Off-road and Dual Sport riders and qualified rider trainers.

- INDUSTRY PARTICIPATION! So what we do promise is to keep the cost to the absolute minimum. So far we are looking around $60-$65/day and with our first ride for 2014 in February with an introductory rate of $50/day. If you compare that in the market place it is well below the normally charged rate for an unsupported commercial ride. In fact it is actually around half of the rate charged for the same service by some operators… Well maybe not exactly the same service because we provide sweeps and support vehicles where some don’t. You will also get access to some great “ADVocate” deals from our growing number of sponsors by being a rideADV.com.au supporter. In fact we think you will be far better off in the long run when you get on board and join us in 2014. Look forward to deals being offered by our Industry partners and reward rides for those of you who participate regularly on our rides.

We aren't in this to make money just cover our costs, we ran it out of our own pocket until it became too much. We are just offering a value for money service where the planning, worry and stress have been taken out of the equation and the support and camaraderie have been added in. THE DATE HAS CHANGED BUT THE RIDE MUST GO ON ;-)
Ride ADV 3 DAY High Country NAV ride - 2014 (2nd, 3rd and 4th of May). Cost is $65.00 per day per person. (That’s under $200.00 for three days of spectacular ADV riding at its best) This ride is a GPS Navigation ride and includes all tracks and routes loaded for each day. The ride is supported by sweeps and chase vehicles.

Please be at registration and map loading no later than 6pm in Jindabyne on Thursday May first at the Jindabyne Hotel, 21 McClure Circuit, Jindabyne NSW 2627 (02 6456 2203).Jindabyne Hotel has 15 family rooms, which accommodates up to 5 people $135 per night with breakfast. There are 20 Double rooms, which accommodate 3 people at $105 per night with breakfast. There is a fully licenced bar and bistro on premises.
GPS loading will start at 5pm and riders briefing is planned for at 7.30pm. All riders are required to attend the rider briefing or you will not be able to start the ride. This is regardless of whether you are using your own GPS or riding with a mate and following his tyre tracks.
For those that wish to camp or get a cabin try the Jindabyne Holiday Park on Kosciusko road, Jindabyne NSW 2627 (02 6171 3442). Camping on an unpowered site is $28 or for a powered site $38. The Holiday Park is only a 2min walk to the Jindabyne Hotel Motel where we will be doing the map loading and departure the following morning.

Day 1 Friday
7.30am leave, Jindabyne to Omeo. (Please do not depart before this time)
There are two routes being a Standard and a Special. Details to be released after the prerun. The Special includes Mt Pinnibar with a technical river crossing (the Murray River). Standard follows the Snowy River along the famous Barry Way. Note that Mt Pinnibar is a steep climb.
Overnight at the Hill Top Hotel – 107 Day Avenue, Omeo VIC 3898 (Contact TAIT on 03 5159 1303) $40 per person that includes a continental breakfast or $50 per person and you will receive a hot cooked breakfast.
There is a restaurant for all meals and off street security parking. They will organise a table in the dining area for GPS loading.
If you wish to camp, camping is at Omeo Caravan Park. (www.omeocaravanpark.com.au)
GPS loading will start at 5pm and riders briefing will be at the Hilltop Hotel at 6.30pm. All riders are required to attend the Riders Briefing.
There are two service stations they are open 7.00am to 7.00pm daily. Please fuel up when you arrive or before departure on Saturday.

Day 2 Saturday
7.30am leave, Omeo to Ensay (Please do not depart before this time)
There are two routes being a Standard and a Special. Details to be released after the prerun. The Special includes Blue Rag and both rides visit Victoria Falls, Mt Hotham, Treasures Huts, Dargo pub and lookouts.Overnight at Little River Inn (Contact Matt or Tracy on 03 5157 3311)
$25 per person in bunk house or $45 for single room with own bathroom. $60 for double with on-suite which can sleep up to three (Cozy ;-)) and camping is only $ 7 per person. Dinner will be $20 per head for a smorgasbord and $15 for a hot breakfast (bargain).

Day 3 (Sun)
7.30am leave, Ensay to Jindabyne (Please do not depart before this time)
There are two routes being a Standard and a Special with final details to be released after the prerun. Some awesome views and lookouts as we head up the Barry Way along the Snowy river.

I've done one of these rides and can assure you that they are as they state they are! But I will add that they are bloody brilliant! Just follow the pink line on the GPS with your mates (or new mates they team you up with if you don't know anyone), in your own little group, at your own pace. With the knowledge that there are sweeps and back up vehicles in the case of something going wrong trail side!

You can't go wrong!

Greg and his team do a superb job. I reckon these are some of the best rides on offer. TF

So we have spend the day pre running, day 2 special is locked down. Blue Rag was awesome as always and the whole days route is one for the punter.
Day 2 standard route we will put to bed next Tuesday if all goes to plan.

What carries a chainsaw, all my gear and does 450kms between drinks?
Firstly I would like to thank, Adventure Moto, Yamaha Australia, Teknik Motorsport, Barkbuster Handguards, GFMS and Barrett Exhausts
I had fitted the bars, barkbusters, USB ports, B & B radiator guard, B & B bash plate, Motion Pro billet rear rack to my bike earlier. We then decided to try just a set of heavier springs in the bikes. The thought was the development of these bikes would be as cheap as possible. Testing showed quickly that for me I couldn&#8217;t slow the rebound enough on the rear shock, the stronger spring just provided too much rebound force for the valving to handle. After playing with the clickers it was decided that Nick needed to work his magic.
Monday night at Teknik&#8217;s was another midnight affair, thanks Nick

From there the build moved to GFMS (Lefty, or Geoff Forshaw Motor Sport) awesome workshop facility. We had two bikes to build and I wanted them finished for this Sunday to give them a shake now before next weekend when Steve Smith and I finish the High Country routes for the May ride.

The IMS tanks were fitted, they have a vacuum pump so they can pick up all the fuel in the tank wings. Lefty hard at it.

I fitted pivot pegz to my bike, Steve wanted a set of Fastway pegs. These things are massive

Screens have been fitted to both bikes, Steve&#8217;s has the clear high impact screen for test and mine has a dark standard screen. Both screens came from &#8220;Screens for Bikes&#8221; I top Australian making quality Australian products

Steve&#8217;s had a set of grip warmers fitted. Power for the warmers was fitted up behind the headlight, actually sourced from the high beam.

Thanks Smithy. We tested the bikes yesterday and they worked a treat Geoff Ballard even punted mine around his private motocross track with 15 litres on board Got some great video and photos of that. The chainsaw doesnt move and they are great fun.

Would welcome you on a ride anytime mate. We have a 3 day on the north coast of NSW later in the year.

I'm just wondering what sort of gps is needed for these rides, I have an older Magellan xl explorest and I'm hoping it would be compatable.
