Mendocino National Forest (MNF) is now organizing forest rehab volunteer events to address the aftermath of the Mill Fire. A volunteer agreement submission is REQUIRED to participate and the form may be obtained by emailing a request to J. Taggart: jctaggart@fs.fed.us. The form must be filled out, signed and returned to MNF by fax: 530-963-3173 or you can scan and return it by email. You may leave the “Agency” field on the form blank.

    Location: Davis Flat Campground
9.5 miles west of Stonyford on Road 18N03
    Lat - 39° 21' 46.56959", Long - 122° 39' 13.4028"
    NO WATER at campground
Nearest food and gas at Stonyford
BRING PLENTY TO EAT AND DRINK
Rain or shine event, BRING APPROPRIATE APPAREL AND SUN PROTECTION

“M10 is open to traffic and you’ll be able to ride the fire perimeter”, per MNF.
These CLOSURES REMAIN IN EFFECT: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5382658.pdf

Per MNF: “We will be focusing our effort on replacing barriers that burned during the Mill Fire in and around the Fouts Spring area. This is an important part of our rehabilitation efforts in order to protect our Cultural and Historical sites throughout Stonyford. This project is not only important but it will also help streamline efforts in order to reopen trails within this area as soon as possible knowing we have protected these sites.

This project is mostly going to utilize our man power, so no bikes or heavy equipment is needed for this event. What we need you to bring is your PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) such as: Boots, Gloves, Eye Protection (safety glasses), long pants and long sleeves. Also bring your foul weather gear such as: Sun Gear (sunblock and hat), Rain Gear and Wind Gear (windbreaker) as this event will be rain, wind or shine.

All of the work we will be doing is within walking distance of Fouts Springs and Davis Flats Campground. There will be a lot of lifting, moving, placing and installing of barriers weighing up to 50+ pounds as well as the use of sledge hammers to install the barriers once in place.”

Free camping vouchers for Davis Flat Campground Saturday night, October 20 will be made available to volunteers during the event. Coincidentally, the Orionids meteor shower peak is that night: http://earthsky.org/tonight/radiant-point-for-orionid-meteor-shower

The Jackhammer Enduro has been cancelled the following day and is not expected to occur this year. Additional MNF volunteer days are scheduled for November 17, December 15, and January 19. Save the dates; more information will be posted as it becomes available.

    Thanks!

Thanks, KL Rocket! OMC is going to be at Davis Flats that weekend and helping out with the projects. We are hoping that Jackhammer Enduro riders will be able to attend and work that weekend. Other clubs that use the area for enduros will hopefully be contacted by the officials of this event will attend as well.

The forest service is equipt to coordinate many volunteers so more is not so much a bad thing.

We'll be at the group camp at Davis Flat and we are going to have a big ass bonfire on Sat night. But....eh....not too big. :huh.

I am updating OMC the website with this info. What's the link?
