what u plan for the top half of the Canning sounds logical and commonsense (i figure you are not a government beauracrat) with the bonus of 12kg less weight -- 18 down to 6

Elsewhere in the outback on the Connie Sue, one ride we had, we had bike probs and were about 50-60km short of our destination at Warby which we had banked on with water supplies.

Myself, dinner was a cup-a-soup with half a cup of water left in the camelback (the high salt content just made my dehydration worse) - I'm a dickhead

One of the other riders Peter the next morning had a severe headache. At Warby there was like 4 camels drinking the well dry. I know i drank 6ltrs, a 2ltr can of tomato juice, 2ltr can of fruit juice and over 2ltrs of water before i felt quenched.

Probably right where the pin is on the pic. Only about 200 mm sand over the top.

I still have 4 x 20 litre plastic jerry cans of fuel buried along the Canning somewhere. Two, I know where they are, but the other two are beside trees that look like every other tree. I did mark them on my POS Magellan gps, but it is buggered and last time I was out there I had no idea which tree. May be a little stale by now though.

Dirt Doctor pulled his radio cord out of his helmet just seconds before RB (lead rider) warning us of a bad corner coming up, he used the bash plate on the 640 as a bulldozer blade bloody Lucky to stay on

Wow, this sounds like my sort of ride!
Unfortunately I'm doing a unsupported Cape York trip at the same time otherwise I'd love to come. I'm actually planning to do the Canning ride next year, so will follow this tread with interest.

Sorry for the delay to your query. We will be in Alice around Friday 09th August after coming up from Chambers Pillar and along the Fink. Plan to be around Alice until Tues 13th doing the....








Then we plan to do the Tan & the Can.

Tomorrow will be off to the sand at Hattah 'til Monday to test a few things out.

Good talking to you the other day - here is our itinery for the ride, starting August 04 at Broken Hill - have the goal posts a bit to help John from Newy. Previous trips suggest its easier to underestimate time, so distance covered most days are conservative, with a few long haul days to buy time if needed.
So the plan is to leave cars, trailers, donkeys, camel trains etc at BH Lake View caravan park.
Sunday 04/08 at BH,
05/08 - on the way to Birdsville,
06/08 - Birdsville with possible start into the Simo,
07/08 - Simo
08/08 - Mt Dare
09/08 - Alice
10/08 - spare day (alice)
11/08 - Kings canyon
12/08 - Olga & the rock
13/08 - Alice (bike service r& r)
14/08 - The Tan
15/08 - Billy and the crater
Next 8 days doing the big can down to Wiluna
23/08 - wiluna
24/08 - the gun
25/08 - warby
26/08 - the connie sue
27/08 - ilkulka
28/08 - 31/08 - the anne beadell to coober
at coober pick up from the depot pre-arranged tyres, oil, spares etc
And then thereafter assess how things are going, probably a lazy ride back to BH via Oodnadatta track or via the Gamman ranges and the Flinders and then home. Then put the bike in the garage, padlock the door and not go near it and then recover from monkey butt.
