No, you would want NO (normally open switch for you uninitiated). Motobrain will sense the transition from floating (not connected to anything) to connected to GND or 12V and do a single cycle.
As requested by you guys, I've added separators between the outputs to prevent accidental short circuits there. It looks pretty good to me. Because the factory production samples were unusable, I ordered some new PCBs yesterday and will be hand building up some new Motobrains for this case next week. The factory that failed is considering rebuilding the samples on their nickel. They are in China and I therefore have little recourse other than my future business. If they can actually deliver I would be excited though because their pricing is good. I've also requested another factory to build some for me in case the first one decides to cut and run with my money after the first failure. I should have some volume of samples in the not to distant future one way or the other. As soon as I have evidence that someone other than myself can build them I will be ordering 100 units which will be going out to early adopters (you guys) and market mavens who will be testing the product for me.
Well, hope the first factory rights the wrong and gets out some decent prototypes. And then can continue it into an actual production run. I'm still sitting on the parts that I bought to make an Arduino version (but without all the cool bluetooth parts and gui interface). Hoping I can buy your more compact and better self protected version...
That mold looks nice! Awesome! Please put me on the early adopter list! You definitely don't lack in perseverance! I sure wish there was a domestic manufacturer that was reasonably price competitive.
I want to thank all you guys who pushed me into doing the silicone molding. Mark especially who walked me through the steps. The cost of on shore assembly is about 10x (excluding the parts) the Asia price. That difference is hard to ignore. It represents the college fund I am hoping to put together for my kids with this product.
This morning I ordered 90% of the parts for the first 100 units. They have already shipped. This afternoon I sent a purchase order to the factory in Florida I selected to be my manufacturing partner. In the end I just could not get comfortable with off shoring the assembly, too many risks. The PCBs are being manufactured in Japan and China as we speak. I still need to some parts from Germany. The sales gal was out of the office. Just a few Is to dot and Ts to cross. I must admit, it is pretty exciting to finally get this process started.
Couple weeks ago I wired up dual-beam aux lights for my 4Runner and re-wired the stock H4 headlights. What a pain in the arse! Fuse holders, switches, multiple SPDT relays... All that needed to be wired with relatively heavy gauge wire. And I wanted it clean and reliable. I can't wait for this high-tech fuse block to be available. Mikko
WOW..... just wow!! every time I check this thread I am impressed at how well you have developed this product. Hoping to get my hands on one once you start mass producing them. I am thinking that I am going to like it too much and i will be adding one to the bike and one to the FJ.
I just pulled a new Motobrain out of the mold. It looks pretty darn fair. I will use a better quality mold master for the production run so that the text on the side looks better. Still, I am quite pleased with this. I think it's a win!
That right there sir is one hell of a milestone - Fantastic! I suspect that they will fly out the door, I for one have my finger on the buzzer for two.
It will come in around $300 if I am the retailer. If it goes into distribution channels instead the pricing will be up to them. Distributors have a much better understanding of how to price products than us inventor types. All I'm thinking about is how much it costs and how much I need to earn on it to make it worth my time. I am inclined to find a distributor so I can focus on inventing and not have to worry about sales, support, shipping etc. This is still all a bit up in the air though. You are watching this entire process unfold in real time. Who knows how it turns out? I'm excited to read my next post
As I have said a couple of times before this went way beyond my "need to have" list many many months ago, but if I've got $300 of spare cash available when these are ready it'll be going on my FJR. Looking toward to seeing the finished product. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
