I have a business conference in Phoenix in early November and am trying to do some desert riding while there. Does anyone know of a rental agency that has tagged dualsport bikes? All I can find are street and offroad only dirt bikes. If any inmates care to help a flatlander out I'd be glad to pay any cost associated with a joint riding venture on a loaner/rental. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I rented a vehicle and a bike and am looking forward to my first time riding the desert. Can't wait!

I believe house of Motorrad still moves their bikes to Phoenix in November for winter rentals. Xlnt people, company and bikes. GS's, 990 KTM Adventures, Triumph and BMW 800's.

You're going to want to be sure to get a TAGGED bike with a SPARK ARRESTOR. Without both of those items you may find yourself with a souvenir violation from a Park Ranger if you get caught on public land.

That being said, any rental place in AZ should be well aware of that and NOT send you out without both of the above. But, it's still your responsibility to be sure as you will be receiving the ticket, not the rental agency.

I will ask about the spark arrestor but bike is not tagged. I couldn't find a rental place that had smaller tagged bikes. All were bigger BMW's and street bikes. No thanks. I was told an OHV sticker is on all the bikes and good for riding offroad on public lands. I'll confirm.

Open enrollment groups scare me. I couldn't dare show up on an unplated, rented bike, rented gear and an ignorant sounding southern drawl and potentially hang with farkled out KTM and BMW crowds. Now if its KLR/DR's with sheepskin seats and beach pale knuckle guards I'm in.

    Will check on Tonto pass.

    Thanks for all the help.
